FL Div 1: 'Bracks' hit the ground running

March 19, 2025

Ballinabrackey's Danny Quinn

Ballinabrackey 0-17 Seneschalstown 1-12

Ballinabrackey hit the ground running under new management as they travelled to Seneschalstown for round one in the PR Coyne and Sons Adult Football League.

The Bracks got the first point on the board in Saturday's game as Danny Quinn slotted a placed ball over the crossbar in the second minute of the game. It didn't take long for Seneschalstown, with a stiff breeze behind them, to find their scoring boots as by the 11th minute they had their noses in front after a free and rattling the Ballinabrackey net. Danny Quinn added to his tally closing the gap to two pints. Ballinabrackey handed Senechalstown two easy kicked frees right in front of the post as they were both brought forward by the ref. Up stepped Quinn yet again to take Ballinabrackey's third placed ball of the day, this seemed to be the theme for the first half, another two points this time from play for Seneschalstown before Niall Smullen added to The Bracks tally taking his own score from play. Seneschalstown liked to keep the scoreboard ticking and just keeping that score difference between the sides another two frees replied to yet again by Quinn. It was a constant exchange. Seneschalstown looked to kick the last point of the half before Danny got his first from play on the half-time whistle. Giving Seneschalstown a five point advantage at the break.

Many would have been forgiven for thinking the game was gone but this was definitely a game of two halfs. Ballinabrackey made a half time sub which saw Richie Coffey make way for Cathal Monahan. The opening five minutes Ballinabrackey out scored Seneschalstown five points to one as Quinn from a free, Dean Carroll from play and Smullen both from play and one being a two pointer all got the Bracks flowing and back on level terms. Seneschalstown answered with the following two points from play before Adam O'Brien who made fantastic work coming up the field to add his name to Ballinabrackey's list of scores. Dean Carroll kept it ticking for the Bracks as he added his second of the afternoon. Twenty minutes into the half Seneschalstown added their fourth and final point of the half. It was Ballinabrackey who finished the game stronger getting the last four points of the game, Quinn with two, Mark Coffey and his own and putting The Bracks in front. Smullen wrapped it up kicking the last free of the game making sure Ballinabrackey took home all the points on off for round one.
