Clann na nGael 7-14 Donaghmore Ashbourne 0-16

Our junior footballers got their league campaign off to a perfect start with a comfortable victory over Donaghmore Ashbourne in Athboy.

Clann na nGael started the brightest, and 1-03 from Éamon Ó’Donnchadha had Clann leading by 1-03 to 0-01 after ten minutes. Ashbourne replied with 2 points of their own before Ó’Donnchadha tagged on another 2 points. Clann na nGael could have had the game dead and buried shortly after this, but 2 goal chances went a begging. Ashbourne replied with 2 successive 2 pointers to go level.

Cormac Smith then got his first of the game, before taking a goal chance brilliantly to put Clann back into the driving seat. Shortly afterwards, the ball fell Liam Mac Namara who lobbed the ball over the keepers head into the top right corner. Who knows if he meant it, but it left Clann na nGael 5 points clear at half time.
