O’Mahonys 1-17 Boardsmill 0-5
O’Mahonys got their 2025 season underway in Boardsmill on Sunday with a comprehensive win against the home team.
Played in dry but cold conditions, both teams took some time to settle as they tried to shake off the inevitable rustiness. Boardsmill started better and were first to register a score. Midway through the first half O’Mahonys slowly began to exert dominance around the middle third and create chances for their dangerous inside forward line. Excellent points from play from Aoibhinn Kielty, Sarah Corcoran and Zoe Shakespeare (who also grabbed a brilliantly taken goal) gave the Navan girls a cushion they would maintain until the final whistle.
Credit to Boardsmill who despite the gap on the scoreboard, continued to battle throughout the second half as O’Mahonys brought on several experienced players to ensure there was no drop in intensity. Milly Murray who had replaced the impressive Claire Mallon at half time being particularly prominent in this regard. Lauren Patterson was a steady presence throughout at centre back and her long striking was seen to great effect with many relieving clearances.
All in all, a satisfactory start to the new season with plenty of areas to work on ahead of the next round of matches.
