March 18, 2025

Andrew Crawford Wolfe Tones

Bhulf Ton 4-15 St Colmcilles 2-14 in Pairc Baile Ghib

Deirtear gur” tús maith leath na hoibre” agus ba thús maith é taispeántas Bhulf Tón sa chead babhta den sraith peile, Roinn a haon. Lá tirim, grianmhar gan móran gaoithe a bhi ann agus thug na foirne cluiche tapaidh briomhar dúinn. Bhi Bhulf Tón 1 09 in aghaidh 1 04 chun tosaigh ag leath am ach le tri chuil eile sa dara leath bhí bearna ró mhor idir na foirne agus an chluiche ag druidim chun críoch.

The teams served up a lively entertaining game in almost perfect conditions in Pairc Baile Ghib for the opening game in the 2025 football league. Tones opened up an early lead thanks to Eoin Donegan (0 01) and Sarán O Fionnagain (1 01), but were rocked back on their heels when the visitors scored 1 03 without reply. O Fionnagain’s goal came following a turnover by Kyle Moran which set up a move involving Oisin Martin and Eoin Donegan who fed O Fionnagain for a finish from close range. Five points on the spin from Sean Penny, Kyle Moran (f) and Caolan Ward (3f) steadied the home side. ‘Cilles replied with a point before Moran & Ward added one each to leave the half time score 1 09 to 1 04.

An early second half penalty converted by Caolán Ward gave Tones the ideal start immediately on the resumption, following a foul on Saran O Fionnagain as he bore down on goals. The move was initiated by county panellist Thomas O Reilly who won a turnover straight from the throw in. Eoin Donegan played an incisive pass to Kyle Moran who set up the goal chance for O Fionnagain. Ward converted a two point free followed by points from Dan O Neill and Kyle Moran. When Saran O Fionnagain bagged his second goal followed by a Thomas O Reilly point the Tones led by 3 14 to 1 07.  O Fionnagains second goal followed a sweeping move direct from Stephen Sheppard’s kickout involving Thomas O Reilly, who won the kickout mark, Caolan Ward and Oisin Martin. However the seasiders refused to throw in the towel and with the help of two “two” pointers and a one pointer narrowed the gap by five points in a matter of minutes, 3 14 to 1 12. However an Oisin Martin point followed by a Kyle Moran goal closed the door on a comeback. ‘Cilles played to the final whistle and were rewarded with a late goal.

This game saw Andrew Crawford make his senior adult debut having helped the Under 19s to a county title recently. The victory was based on hard work all over the field, with committed defending allied to some slick forward play. Next up an away game to Ballinabrackey.
