Seneschalstown 1-06 Kilmainhamwood 1-15
Seneschalstown’s second string went to Kilmainhamwood in this opening Division 5 encounter played in superb conditions at the North Meath venue on Sunday morning.
The first half was certainly a slow burner and the home side were the ones who started strongest kicking the first two points in the opening six minutes. Seneschalstown’s first score came after 13 minutes with Owen Mullen finding the target.
The home side replied in kind with another in the 14th minute before Mark Fox kicked Seneschalstown’s second. When Alex Finnegan put over a fine point after 21 minutes it was 0-04 to 0-03 to the home side.
After another score for the ‘Wood, Seneschalstown enjoyed a bright ending to the half. The were handed a massive boost when Neil Darby capitalised on some miscommunication between the Kilmainhamwood keeper and a defender to nip in and slot the ball the ball into an empty net, and the lead was two points at half time when the returning James Meade fired over another score.
However, Seneschalstown could not build on this interval advantage and were left to rue a disappointing second half. Éamon Finnegan pulled on a loose ball from close range to register Seneschalstown’s first score of the half in the 52nd minute but by that stage, Kilmainhamwood had pulled away with a goal and a number of points.
Neil Darby tagged on Seneschalstown’s last point but it was only a consolation as the home side ran out nine point winners.
