Longwood 1-18 Carnaross 0-19
Carnaross opened their Division 4 JMB Sportsfields league campaign with a trip to a blisteringly cold Longwood on Friday night.
It was an evenly contested affair right from the off. Carnaross started the brighter of the two teams but Longwood dominated the 2nd quarter. It was unusual to see Sean Carpenter line up in the white and black of Longwood after his move to South Meath. Sean enjoyed a great tussle with Carnaross full forward Cillian Comaskey and we wish Sean the best of luck with his new club. It was an open and free flowing game with both sets of forwards enjoying time and space. At half time Longwood held a narrow lead of ten points to 7.
The Ross hit a purple patch in the third quarter rattling off 4 unanswered points to regain the lead. Luke Gillic was beginning to exert himself around the middle but Longwood continued to keep pace with the North Meath men. The Hoops won the majority of their opponents kickouts but spurned numerous scorable chances. Longwood replied with a well worked goal but Carnaross kept their slender lead entering the final quarter. Paddy McDermott hit a rich vein of form from play and frees as the lead was extended to 3 points. However Longwood struck two 2pointers in the last 5 minutes to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. It was a tough defeat for Carnaross against a physically imposing Longwood side
