FL Div 5: Strong second half seals win for 'Wood'

Kilmainhamwood 1-15 Seneschalstown 1-6

On Sunday morning Seneschalstown made the trip down to face Kilmainhamwood in the first round of the Division 5 league campaign. 

The game started slow with scores at a premium for both sides. After a few minutes on the clock Cathal Bennett settled Wood nerves with a well taken point to put get the scoreboard ticking over. Aidan Roche on his first league appearance for Kilmainhamwood was making runs into dangerous position and was rewarded with a well taken point to extend Kilmainhamwoods lead. Seneschalstown kept pushing for scores of their own and 3 nice points kept the pressure on Kilmainhamwood in the first half. Some nice link up play inside from Brian Cassidy, Killian Russell and Eóin Finnegan lead to Paul Carolan registering his sole score of the day. Seneschalstown managed to register a fortuitous goal to put them in the lead. Cathal Bennett was working hard inside and registered 2 more well taken points to keep two points between the teams going into the break.

Half time: Kilmainhamwood 0-05 Seneschalstown 1-4

Kilmainhamwood started the second half stronger of the two teams nice points from Eóin Finnegan, Niall Bennett and Brian Cassidy put the Wood in front. Seneschalstown got it hard to get scores to come by with aggressive defending from Oisin Fagan keeping them out. On the far end of the pitch Kilmainhamwood starting turning the screw on Seneschalstown with good support play from the front 6 creating opportunities to score. Aidan Roche was in fine fettle and registered 1-4 in this second half period to get the Wood over the line and a win on the board. Niall Bennett raised the first orange flag of the Woods league campaign with this score the very last kick of the ball.
