Craig Munnelly retains possession during the NFL Division 2 clash with Curraha at Paddy O'Brien Park

Navan O’Mahony’s 4-17 Curraha 0-04

It was largely one way traffic for most of the game in a sunny Paddy O’Brien Park as O’Mahony’s got off to a good start to the Division 2 league.

Midfielder Eoghan Nugent opened the scoring after two minutes, followed by a similar effort from Oisín O’Brien. Aodhán Mallon and O’Brien added further points in the next two minutes before Curraha opened their scoring midway through the half.

The visitors added to this within ninety seconds. Both sides fell victim to the new rules, with some short-range frees given. Robbie Keelaghan kicked two frees in quick succession. A penalty from O’Brien, following a foul on Ronan Clarke, put distance between the teams. This was extended with a Keelaghan point from play and a Mallon free towards the end.

The last kick of the half came with an impressive two pointer from Curraha, into the astro-turf end. This left eight points between the sides at the interval.

The second half started as the first had ended, with a two pointer kicked into the astro-turf end. The kicker this time was O’Brien. Five minutes later, a high ball from Conor Finnegan found its way to the net, before Mallon did likewise with a palmed effort moments later.

Curraha’s deficit had been extended from eight to sixteen points in this six minute window, giving O’Mahony’s an unsurmountable lead. Ivo Fitzherbert and Mallon raised a white flag each while the fourth goal of the game came from Craig Munnelly.

Substitutes Evan Coffey and Tiarnán Black added their names to the scoresheet and Keelaghan pointed from play with five minutes remaining. Two late Finnegan points saw out the game.
