Davis Cup: First win for Trim

March 10, 2025

Trim's Kyle Ennis

Trim 0-17; Dunderry 0-15

Report by Kevin Coleman

Trim produced their first win of the season for new manager Paul Kelly when they travelled the short distance to near neighbours Dunderry on Saturday afternoon.

On a less than ideal playing surface, it was very apparent from the outset that this was going to be a dogged affair and there was never going to be much between the sides, and it was not until the seventh minute that Evan Nolan opened the scoring for the home side.

Trim responded with two cleverly taken line balls which found Mark Molloy and Daniel Fox, respectively, in good scoring positions, and both obliged to put the visitors ahead after twelve minutes.

Dunderry’s Jordan Martin and Trim’s Kyle Ennis exchanged points before Evan Nolan’s brace edged the home side ahead for the one and only time. Trim restored their advantage with three unanswered points from Kyle Ennis (f), George Douglas, and Cathal O’Reilly, and there were further exchanges of scores before half time, the Trim scores coming from two Kyle Ennis pointed frees, the second being an enormous effort from over eighty metres.

Half Time: Trim 0-8, Dunderry 0-6

Trim were much smarter into their stride on the resumption and Conor Quigley and Kyle Ennis put their side further ahead before Liam Dempsey and Jordan Martin replied for the home side. The introduction of James Murray, early in the second half, was a welcome boost for the Trim supporters before George Douglas added to his tally. Dunderry did reduce the visitor’s advantage to the minimum before Trim hit a purple patch between the fifteenth and twenty first minute with four unanswered points from Kyle Ennis (3, 2f) and the aforementioned James Murray.

Proceedings got a little overheated late in the game but were comprehensively dealt with by referee Stephen Dowling.

Trim’s advantage stretched to five following a Conor McKeown effort but Dunderry hit four on the bounce in the last five minutes to make matters a little more edgy. A fine solo effort from Trim’s Conor Quigley, late in the game, finally settled matters to secure a well-deserved victory.
