Meath's Faye Govern

Meath 3-6. Armagh 2-09

Meath and Armagh played out a lively and intense opening round to the U-16 All Ireland Camogie Championship at St Loman's Park Trim on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

The early exchanges were very even with Aoife Dunne (Kildalkey) opening the score will a well taken point. Points were exchanged with Saoirse Meagher (Clann Na Gael) and Ellen Murray (Trim), keeping Meath in the fight. 23 minutes in Saoirse Meagher struck Meath's first goal with a well taken strike from 20 metres. A sustained period of pressure from Armagh brought the scores that gave them a half time lead 1-03 to 1-05.

Meath made the perfect start from the restart with a further goal from Meagher and a well taken point from Murray. The game ebbed and flowed with only one score consistently separating the teams. With the game in the final 10 minutes a well worked Meath attack put Aoife Dunne through on goal, and she made no mistake finding the net. Armagh pressed hard for an equalising goal, which came after a strong run and a fortuitous strike. The game ended even, which those present would say was a fair result.

Meath had good performances from Grace Hogan (Navan O'Mahonys), Clodagh Maher (Dunboyne), Faye Govern (Dunderry) and the superb Aoife Dunne.

Next round is on March 23rd v Westmeath.
