Boardsmill 3-07 Kilmainhamwood 2-09
Boardsmill welcomed Kilmainhamwood to Patsy's Field for the final round of the Tailteann Shield group stage.
Over the years there has always been very little between both sides and this game was no different. It was Boardsmill who opened the scoring from the boot of Niall Durkan, shortly afterwards Danny Dixon opened his account for the day with a well worked point from play. The home side had made most of the early running and seemed to take control when a ball broke to Niall Durkan to finish to the net to extend the lead to five points. In fairness to the north Meath men they rallied well and scored a goal and a point without reply. Dixon settled the nerves with a point before Durkan got his second goal of the game following a great team move that started with Conor Darby in corner back. A powerful run from Cillian Purcell set up Durkan to sidestep the keeper and finish to the net.
James Ashe kicked his first score of the year as he jinked inside him marker to curl the ball between the uprights. Kilmainhamwood finished the half with a two pointer free to leave four points between the teams at half time.
Half time Boardsmill 2-04 Kilmainhamwood 1-03
Playing with the aid of a slight breeze in the second half Boardsmill failed to kick on early days as it was Kilmainhamwood who scored twice to claw back the lead. Ashe kicked Boardsmills first of the second half with a point from all of two yards before Dixon added to the scoreboard with a point off his left. Kilmainhamwood had a purple patch and scored a goal and a point in quick succession to tighten up the scoreboard. From the resulting kick out Boardsmill grabbed a fortunate goal as a James Ashe effort was half blocked, which deceived the goalkeeper and found it's was to the net. Ashe kicked his and Boardsmills last point of the game from a tight angle. From here the 'Mill had to defend like dogs and a fantastic Bertie McLoughlin save kept the visitors at bay as they scored a final two points to see the Mill run out one point victors as the referee blew the full time whistle. Congratulations to Jamie Doonan on making his adult debut for Boardsmill following his recent transfer to the club.
The win sees Boardsmill finish top of their group.
