Corn na Boinne: No joy for the 'Ha' in Drumbaragh

March 03, 2025

Curraha's Ronan Flynn

Curraha 0-11 Drumbaragh 2-12

Curraha travelled to Drumbaragh Emmets GFC for their third and final game of this years Corn na Boinne campaign. Peter O’Halloran got the game underway at mid-day.

Drumbaragh got the first score of the game coming after 30 seconds. Curraha had to wait 5 minutes for their first score of the game when Ronan Flynn finished off a fine team move to level the contest. Matthew Brennan made a brilliant save moments later to deny Drumbaragh. Drumbaragh had the aid of a slight wind and were 5 points to 1 up after 20 minutes after a flurry of points 3 of which came from Hughie Corcoran. Curraha battled hard in the first half and some fine defending prevented further Drumbaragh points. Brian Joyce also took the ball off the Drumbaragh goal line to prevent a certain goal.

Half time score: Curraha 0-1 Drumbaragh 0-5

Curraha started the second half very well and only took 20 seconds for a score when Conor O’Farrell gave a fine pass into Ronan Flynn who kicked a fine point from play to reduce the deficit to 3 points. Drumbaragh got 2 further scores moments later to restore their lead to 5 points. Ronan Flynn got the next Curraha point with 20 minutes remaining with a fine point from close range. Ruairí O’Sullivan then brought the lead back to 3 when his fine shot raised a white flag. Drumbaragh responded with a point of their own. Curraha continued to grow into the game and a fine turnover resulted in Ronan Flynn kicking another point to leave 3 in it once more. Ruairí O’Sullivan got Currahas first 2 pointer of the game to leave 1 between the teams. 2 further points from Drumbaragh 1 of which was a 2 pointer made it a 4 point game.

Ruairí O’Sullivan got Curraha's next point after Curraha won a superb kickout. Mark Mahon was introduced for Robert O’Farrell as well as PJ O'Reilly being introduced for Conor O’Farrell with 10 minutes remaining. Ronan Flynn kicked another 2 pointer for Curraha to leave 1 between the teams after the Curraha players forced a turnover and broke at speed for Currahas score of the day. Ben Heagney levelled the game with 5 minutes remaining after he scored a fine point from play. Unfortunately for Curraha, Drumbaragh found the back of the Curraha net to reinstate their lead. They then made the game a 4 point contest with a further point. Curraha’s Kevin O’Connor came on for Ruairí O’Sullivan with minutes remaining. Drumbaragh got their second goal to leave 7 between the teams moments later. Curraha made 1 last change when Eric O’Donoghue came on for Cian Heagney. That would be the final action of the game.

Unfortunately for Curraha it was Drumbaragh who came away with the victory. The scoreboard probably didn't reflect Curraha's fine performance who levelled the game with 5 minutes remaining but 2 late Drumbaragh goals was the difference. Curraha can take great positives from the defeat with some fine play throughout. Curraha will be back in competitive action in 2 weeks time for their Round 1 meeting of the 2025 A league against Navan O’Mahonys.
