Coiste na Mí C.L.G. announce the foundation of a new fundraising initiative aimed at assisting the continued development of the Centre of Excellence in Dunganny and the installation of floodlights in Páirc Tailteann.
Launch Event
Brú na Bóinne the Visitor Centre at the historic Newgrange was the venue for the launch event on Friday January 31 which was hosted by RTE Morning Ireland presenter Dr. Gavin Jennings. Speakers on the evening included Cairde na Mí Chairperson Gene Smith, Coiste na Mí C.L.G. Chairperson Jason Plunkett, Nina Carberry MEP and four-time All-Ireland winning manager Sean Boylan. The evening concluded with a panel discussion facilitated by Dr. Gavin Jennings with Nina Carberry MEP, Sean Boylan and Cathal Ó Bric, All-Ireland Minor and Leinster U-20 winning manager.
The Cairde na Mí Committee are grateful to all for their excellent contributions on the evening with Nina Carberry MEP speaking about what it takes to be a sportsperson at the highest level, something she has a great insight on from her time as a top jockey, with the Irish Grand National and multiple Cheltenham Festival successes among her achievements on the racecourse.
Sean Boylan had the audience in the palm of his hand as he spoke passionately about what is required for Meath teams across the various codes to be able to compete at the highest level. A passionate advocate for Ladies Football, a former Meath Hurler and one of the greatest football managers of all time, there are few better positioned than Sean to know what it takes to be competing at the highest level.
Gene Smith, Chair of Cairde na Mí explained the works planned for the Centre of Excellence with the proceeds raised from the new fundraising initiative ‘Coiste na Mí’. The ever-increasing need to improve the facilities for teams across Meath GAA, Meath Camogie and Meath Ladies Football means that there are a number of projects which the committee will be prioritising.
Jason Plunkett, Chairperson of Coiste na Mí C.L.G. acknowledged the efforts of the Cairde na Mí Committee and said that the proposed work will help to secure the future of all arms of Meath GAA through the development of these facilities. Jason spoke about how this fundraising initiative is a community effort and that when you join Cairde na Mí, you are investing in the future of Meath GAA in all codes.
Enhancing our Facilities: The Work Ahead
The Meath GAA facilities are undergoing significant upgrades to meet the demands of modern sport and sustainability. Below are the key projects planned.
Installation of Irrigation System on the existing pitches in Dunganny.
Advanced irrigation technology will ensure our pitches remain in top condition all year-round, regardless of weather.
Upgrading the Astro Turf pitch to 5G in Dunganny.
Upgrading the artificial pitch to the latest 5G surface, providing a faster, safer, and more durable playing surface for teams.
New LED Floodlighting in Páirc Tailteann.
This energy-efficient upgrade will cover both the existing pitches in the Dunganny Centre of Excellence and the re-installation of floodlights in Páirc Tailteann. It enhances visibility for training sessions and evening matches, all while becoming more energy efficient.
Completion of 3 New Pitches in Dunganny.
We are expanding our pitch capacity with the development of three new, high-quality grass pitches to accommodate more teams and competitions. To ensure these pitches are fully functional and secure, fences will be erected around each pitch, providing a safe and enclosed environment for players and spectators.
New Lighting and Tarmacking for the Driveway and Carpark Areas in Dunganny.
Energy-efficient lighting will be installed along the driveway and parking areas to enhance safety and accessibility. Additionally, all carpark spaces will be tarmacked to improve comfort and ease of access for visitors, players and staff.
Construction of Toilets Adjacent to Pitches 2 and 3 in Dunganny.
New toilet facilities will be constructed close to Pitches 2 and 3 for the convenience of athletes and spectators.
Introducing a Solar Farm in Dunganny.
A new solar farm will generate clean, renewable energy to power the entire facility, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability.
We are launching this initiative to support the future development of the Dunganny Centre of Excellence, ensuring top-class facilities for Meath GAA.
