Round 1 of the Brendan Davis Cup for Dunderry meant a trip out the Dublin Rd as far as Kiltale.
The hosts hit 3 in a row to welcome the visitors. Evan Nolan replied with 3 frees. Kiltale responded with another 3 ( 2 from play)
A fourth Nolan free was followed up by a fine team effort resulting in one of only 2 goals in the game. Jamie Duffy gathered in defence, passed to Jordan Martyn who picked out debutante Cathal Barron who put it on a plate for Nolan to tap home from close range. This was followed up by a well taken point from Mark Leavy.
Kiltale however finished the half a point up, 1-7 to 1-6, following 1-1 from play.
The second half started with 2 Nolan frees either side of two points from play for Kiltale.
The next 6 scores were all frees-4 for the Black and whites of Dunderry sporting a new set of Jerseys, which were generously sponsored by Local Company Versatile.
Adam Kelly pointed from play as did Mark Leavy leaving a 3 point advantage coming to the closing stages. Kiltale however had the last say and finished with 2 from play in between two frees.
Nial Darcy was taken down with time almost up but alas the resulting free didn't raise a flag which would have been a just reward for men from Dunderry.
Final score was 1-15 to 1-14
Dunderry: Jack Fagan, Darragh Fay, Fionn McHale, T J Loughran, Cathal Barron, Liam Coogan, Níall Ó Laoire, Conor Leavy, William Tracey, Rian Fay, Mark Leavy 0-2, Jordan Martin, Evan Nolan 1-11 (11 frees), Adam Kelly 0-1, Jamie Duffy

A good defence in the making that will hopefully be complimented by more scoring options in the year ahead.
