Tailteann Cup: Strong second half seals first win for Kilmainham

February 24, 2025

Kilmainham's Larry Morgan

Kilmainham 1-17, Nobber 1-8

A narrow two-point loss in round 1 of the Tailteann Cup had Kilmainham going into playing Nobber in round two with plenty of optimism. This was our first home match of the year on Saturday 22nd February. The pitch was in perfect condition despite some poor weather during the week. Nobber had drawn their opening match to St. Brigid’s in round one. Kilmainham were playing against the wind in the first half. A real good work rate kept the game in the melting pot as half time approached. The sides could not be separated as the half time whistle blew.

Half time score Kilmainham 0-8, Nobber 1- 5.

A strong second half performance with the wind in our favour had us six points up in the second half and in control of the match. A key turning point in the match was a brilliant penalty save by Dean Peppard in the Kilmainham nets to deny Niall Farrell from the spot. Kilmainham then pushed on to finish out the game strong and take the win. A spread of nine different scorers will please the management team. It was great to see Stephen Newman back in the Kilmainham colours despite the calving season still in full flow! A special mention also to Danny Newman who scored his first competitive point for the club. Hopefully it will be the first of many!

Despite missing a few key players. We can be very happy with every player that either started or who came on. They all contributed to a very dominant team performance. The win see’s us on two points from two matches. We play St. Brigid’s in round 3 in Ballinacree next Sunday morning 2nd March at 10.30am.

A big thank you to everyone that came out to support the lads on Saturday. It makes a big difference to the players. Please come out and support the lads next Sunday.
