Kilbride's David O'Leary

Kilbride 2-6 / Walterstown 6-14

Kilbride travelled to Walterstown for the first round of the Corn Na Boinne on an overcast Saturday afternoon.

Walterstown succeeded in gaining possession from Kilbrides kickouts, which lead to their first point of the match being scored as a result of a free.

Josh Harford got Kilbride on the score board with a well struck attempt from play, after a nice link-up with James Gavin. David O’Leary scored the second point of the match, after good efforts by Kilbride to get through Walterstowns strong defence line. Zack McGovern continued by scoring a great goal.

Kilbride communicated their passes well as a team. Andrew McWeeney, Barry O’Leary and Caolan Howard made notable runs and plays. However, Walterstown took the lead by scoring a few more points, Paul Hayes making a great save from a close goal chance. Walterstown scored a goal and two points after winning five of Kilbrides kickouts in row, followed by another goal for Walterstown.

The new rules, particularly the ‘solo and go’, was used frequently. Halftime score: Walterstown 3-9 to Kilbride 2-2.
