HS Meath Awards: IFC Player of the Year

December 28, 2024

Meath Hill's Gary Breslin

It was a year to remember for Meath Hill, their supporters and the neutral as Shane McCoy’s men claimed the Mattie McDonnell Cup in impressive fashion. The atmosphere and colour their supporters brought to Páirc Tailteann on semi final and final day has not been seen at HQ for a long time. Keeper Dominic Yorke, defenders Thomas Carolan, Jamie Slavin, midfielder Ryan Owens and Cormac Sheehy and James Mooney in attack stood out for the 2024 IFC winners.

The Dillons, Brian and Duggie, Aodhan Mallon, Robbie Keelaghan and Oisin O’Brien excelled for beaten finalists O’Mahony’s. County Under 20 stars Killian Smyth and Rian McConnell along with Killian Price were the leading lights as Castletown made it to the last four. Brendan McKeon and Brian O’Halloran were the mainstays as Ballivor made it to the semi final.

One player stood head and shoulders above the rest in 2024. One of the easiest decision we had to make this year. Gary Breslin is our Intermediate Football Championship Player of the Year. Outstanding in every game. Immense work rate but done most of his damage on the 40 or at full forward. His accuracy from play or frees were crucial to the cause. Scorer of six points in the extra time final win over O’Mahony’s, kicked another half dozen in the semi final win over Ballivor and hit 1-9 in the quarter final victory over Kilbride.

Enough said. Well done Gary.
