HS Meath Awards: SFC Team of the Year

December 23, 2024

Dunshaughlin and Wolfe Tones on parade before the start of the 2024 Meath SFC final at Pairc Tailteann

Dunshaughlin ended a twenty two year wait to get their hands on the Keegan Cup. Played in stormy conditions it looked like Wolfe Tones were going to cause an upset when Cian Ward capitalised on a mistake and fired to the Black and Ambers net but Richie Kealy’s men, who went the whole campaign unbeaten, refused to panic. With normal time almost up Costello was on hand to poke the ball home in a crowded square to nudge Dunshaughlin two in front and from there on there was only going to be one winner.

Wearing the St. Martin's red and black Dunshaughlin defeated Dunboyne in the semi final 0-11 to 0-10. On the other side of the draw Wolfe Tones and Skryne produced the game of the championship. Extra time was needed to sort this brilliant game of football. Goals from Kyle Moran and Sean Penny settled this one in the second half of extra time. Simonstown, Ratoath, St. Colmcilles and 2024 winners Summerhill reached the quarter finals. The relegation battle turned out to be an enthralling affair. Gaeil Colmcille, Na Fianna, Donaghmore Ashbourne and Trim survived at the first attempt. In the end Ballinabrackey saw off Curraha after extra time and penalties.
