HS Meath Awards: SHC Player of the Year

December 22, 2024

Trim's James Murray measures up another sideline cut during the SHC semi final clash with neighbours Kildalkey at Pairc Tailteann

Ratoath were crowned senior hurling championship winners for the first time since 1963 after one of the best county finals seen for years at Páirc Tailteann. Mickey Cole’s men withstood a serious Trim fightback to take home the Jubilee Cup for the first time 61 years.

The champions had some outstanding individual displays along the way. Podge Hanrahan was the championship top scorer and his accuracy from frees was crucial. Cian Rogers and Daithi McGowan were a threat upfront all season for the men in Blue and Gold. Gary Fleming and Dimmy Higgins were rocks at the heart of the Trim defence. Nicky Potterton stood out for defending champions Kildalkey and while injury curtailed his influence in the semi final Kris Gorman led the way for Kilmessan.

We have gone for James Murray as our senior championship hurler of the year. One of the most skilful players in the county, the centre forward had an immense year. Nine points in the county final and 1-6 in the semi final were just some of his impressive tallies throughout the campaign. From frees or from play the Trim man could be replied upon. We take you back to that semi final win over neighbours Kildalkey. Anyone that was lucky enough to be in Páirc Tailteann that day to witness a piece of national news will remember his exploits for many a year. Those four points from sideline cuts will live long in the memory.

Well done James.
