A thrilling draw was the result when these two very talented squads met in the Boys Division 3 Football Final on Sunday 17th at Páirc Tailteann. Another large crowd turned up at St. Lomans Park Trim yesterday in the hope of seeing something similar and they were not disappointed.

The wind blowing down to the town end had a big bearing on this outcome. Coole played with the elements in the first half and got a great start when Charlie McElligott was on hand to finish to the Kilcloon net for the first of his three goals. Kilcloon were struggling to get out of their own half but the talented John Molloy had them on the scoreboard after five minutes. From there on it was all Coole. Points from outstanding midfielders James Fagan and Kieran Dunne was followed by a Cooper Lyons McDaid goal. Evan Carroll raised his first white flag and soon after goals number three and four arrived courtesy of Evan Reynolds and McElligott. McDaid and Carroll finished the scoring spree and Coole went to their half time huddle 4-5 to 0-2 in front.

It was now Kilcooon’s turn to play with the wind. Inside the opening five minutes of the second half Molloy and Hugo Ellerker were in for goals. Coole refused to panic and from a break away McElligott got his third crucial goal. Molloy replied in kind soon after and with ten minutes to play the lead was down to nine, 5-5 to 3-2. Carroll made it a ten point game with his third score before Kilcloon laid siege to the Coole goal. Molloy raised his third green flag, Aidan Kelly scored goal number five and points from James Larkin and Molloy left two in it as the game entered injury time. The score Kilcloon required didn’t arrive thanks to some brilliant defending from the Coole reargaurd and when John Byrne blew the full time whistle the boys in blue and amber were crowned champions for the first time since 2009.

After the game James Brennan presented the cup to Coole captain James Fagan.
