St. Paul’s N.S., Navan 2-8 St. Mary’s N.S., Trim 0-4

St. Pauls N.S. claimed their 5th Allianz Meath Cumann na mBunscol Girls Division 1 football title with this comfortable win over St. Mary’s Convent Primary School in the first game of the day at Páirc Tailteann. The Navan school won the competition in 1995, 1998, 1999 and 2002 while it was a first final appearance for the Trim school. PHOTOS

The first half was a very even affair. Beth Murphy and Meadhbh McDermott put St. Pauls in front but St. Mary’s were on level terms by the 15th minute with scores from Saibh McMorrow and Aisling Canty. Minutes later the games opening goal arrived courtesy of Holly Quinn Rogers and the Navan school went to the half time huddle 1-2 to 0-3 in front.

St Pauls dominated the second half scoring 1-6 and holding St. Mary’s to a single point. Croí Traynor got her first point of the game in the opening play of the second half. By the 30th minute the Navan school were well on their way to victory when full forward Beth Murphy finished to the Mary’s net. 

After the game joint captains Croí Traynor and Meadhbh McDermott received the Cumann na mBunscol Division 1 cup from Martin Griffin to the delight of their large following.
