Gilson N.S. claimed the Allianz Meath Cumann na mBunscol Girls Division 2 title with three goals to spare over Yellow Furze N.S. in the fifth and final game of the day at Páirc Tailteann. PHOTOS
A strong first half display proved crucial for the North Meath school. The impressive Shauna Halpin kicked three points inside the opening ten minutes and along with a Lexi Griffin goal the girls in white and blue were six points in front. Lucy Davis landed two points for Yellow Furze before Oldcastle went on another scoring burst. Griffin raised a second green flag and Halpin notched 1-1 to put their school in control at the break 3-4 to 0-3.
The game was a good as over inside the opening ten minutes of the second hal. Lucy Griffin and Lexi Finnegan traded points before Lexi Griffin another two more goals to put Oldcastle 5-5 to 0-4 in front. Yellow Furze didn’t give up and were rewarded with a Daina Healy Sierakowski point, a Lexi Finnegan goal and 1-1 from captain Lucy Hynes to close the gap but time ran out and Gilson N.S. were champions.
After the game Caroline Gibbons presented the Division 2 cup to joint captains Síofraidh Halpin-Murphy and Dileta Bendaraviciute.
