Loughcrew 1-18 Boyne Valley 1-11
In a repeat of last years semi final Loughcrew got revenge for that narrow one point defeat with this opening round win over holders Boyne Valley in perfect conditions at Ballinlough.
The game was played under the watchful eye of Chairperson of the Review Committee Jim Gavin. Some of the proposed new rules were put into action and referee Andrew Smith along with his lines men Adrian Corcoran and Seamus O’Connor kept confusion to a minimum. It made for a very open fast moving game of football with some excellent scores.
Cormac Rowe got the opening goal for Boyne Valley after a minute. Daire Shine kicked five points in the opening half for Loughcrew but Boyne went to the dressing room 1-7 to 0-9 in front. Jason Scully put the North Meath combination on the front foot with a goal after a Daire Shine tap and go free and from there on Davy Nelson’s charges took control kicking five unanswered points in the last 12 minutes to run out convincing winners.
