Kilbride 4-7 Gaeil Colmcille 1-14

Kilbride ladies and Gaeil Colmcille Junior B championship Final was held in Bective on Saturday at 3.30.

Kilbride started well but missed a few early chances before getting the first score on the board with a fantastic goal from Susie Dempsey. Kells got their scoring off with a point before Kilbrides Aideen Reilly secured their first point after 12 minutes. Kilbride went on to get a second goal from a Megan Peters free kick which dropped into the Kells net. Kells came back with 2 more points closing the first half, Kilbride 2-1 to Kells 0-3.

Kells started the second half very well, getting the first 2 points of the half before Aideen Reilly got Kilbride's first point of the half, followed by another score from Megan Peters. Kells fought back to score a fine goal, followed by a few points to level the match for the first time. Kilbride retaliated to get two more points from Megan Peters and Serena Gavin before Kells took over and went ahead by three points. KIibride ladies didn't give up even though it looked like Kells were going to be the winners, as we entered into injury time. Kilbride tried hard to get a goal to equalise the match, Kells defending very well, but still couldn't get the better of this strong team with Aideen Reilly putting the ball in the back of the net leaving the game level at full time, Kilbride 3-05 - Kells 1-11

Extra time kicked off with Kilbride getting the another goal from great team work finished off by Aideen Reilly. Kells quickly came back to score 2 points bringing the game to a 1 point difference at then end of the first half. The second 10 minutes of extra time were not for the faint hearted as both these teams battled for scores, Kilbride getting 2 points from Megan Peters and Aideen Reilly. Kells came back with one more point before the final whistle blew. Final score 4-7 to 1-14 , Kilbride being the County Champion's. An amazing win in front of huge support from both sides. A great game of football from both teams and a battle to the end.

From a great team there were some stand out performances on the day from Maggie Donnelly in the full back line, Grace Moody, centre back, Serena Gavin, midfield, along with Megan Peters and Aideen Reilly in the full forward line.

A huge shout out to this incredible panel of ladies in Kilbride, this being their second Championship win in four years. Each and every one of them worthy of a place on this team and each of them bringing the team to a county final in all the games beforehand. They are a credit to themselves, their family's and their club, Kilbride GFC. Huge thanks to the Manager Stephen McMullan and his team of coaches with great work all year.
