IFC semi final: Breslin and Sheehy lead Meath Hill to decider

Meath Hill 1-12 Ballivor 2-6

Meath Hill will take on Navan O’Mahony’s in this years Intermediate Football Championship final after this three point win over Ballivor at Pairc Tailteann.

Half forwards Cormac Sherry and Gary Breslin were outstanding for the winners.

Ballivor got a great start with points from Martin Healy and Evan Fitzgerald. Sheehy put the winners on the scoreboard but Paddy Conneely restored Ballivor’s three point advantage by the 15th minute. From there on Meath Hill took over. Breslin (2), Sheehy (2) keeper Dominic Yorke and Sean Owens raised white flags and they took a 0-7 to 0-4 interval lead to the dressing room.

A brilliant opening ten minutes from centre forward Breslin that yielded three points and another from Sheehy pushed Shane McCoy’s charges seven in front and Ballivor looked in trouble. 

Keith Keoghan brought the men in maroon back into the game with a brilliant goal after 44 minutes. Breslin hit back with the point of the game and soon after corner forward Jack McMahon was in for the winners only goal to open up a seven point lead. Ballivor refused to give up. Brendan McKeon pointed and deep into injury time Keogan was in for his second goal but by then Meath Hill’s attention had turned to a final date with Navan O’Mahony’s in two weeks time.
