Dunderry's Ciarán Brady heads for the Walterstown goal during the Premier 4 Football Championship final at Simonstown

Dunderry 1-12 Walterstown 1-8

The Dunderry Faithfull went in force to Simonstown this lovely sunny morning to watch Alan Watters men take on Walterstown in this Premier 4 Football Championship final.

Walterstown were first off the mark with a free which was soon cancelled by a Mark Leavy free. Walterstown struck from play before Ó Laoire collected a ball from Kenny Fay and tapped over on the run. The next play involved Kelly who fed Bob who in turn fed Ó Laoire and he made mistake this time with the left foot. Connelly intersected the resulting kick out , off loaded to Ciarán Brady , to Kelly again who this time picked out Rian Fay who put two between the teams. The concession of a free and our own resulting kick out had it back level. Dunderry went forward once more and this time the instrumental Sheridan put our noses in front again. Kelly made it six against four after Ronán Brady once more intersected and the ball was delivered to Kelly for his opener. A Walterstown converted free brought the first half to a close with Dunderry ahead 0-6 to 0-5.

The second half started with Kelly picking up where he left off after Ó Laoire turned the ball over . Walterstown hit back from play to leave the minimum between the sides once more. Adam and Donagh combined again with the latter picking out the Meathstown ace with a free.

The resulting kick out was nabbed on by the energetic Mark Leavy who hit his first from play. A Bob Doherty free had four between the sides.

Chuck Dempseys first involvement was to turn over the ball in the full back line , pick out Sheridan who handed to Kelly and he raised the first green flag of the afternoon with an unstoppable shot.

Now with a seven point lead and Walterstown down to 14 we thought it was only a matter of time before we lifted the cup. Walterstown had other ideas though and hit us with a free first, then from play and thirdly from the penalty spot. With Fitzy black carded, Ronán Brady stood between the posts and almost pulled off the save.

Two points separated the teams going into the last few minutes and we struggled ,as we did in the semi final, to get the out of defence. When we did get the ball forward we were fouled and Leavy steadied the ship with the free.

The younger Dunderry side hit the last score when Mark Leavy turned his man inside and out and drilled over with the outside of the boot for a well deserved win on a score line of 1-12 to 1-8.

A well disciplined and well coached side with the cool and calm Watters at the helm. Walterstown will rue their missed chances but this was to be Dunderrys day and with 3 sets of brothers- Kellys, Leavys, Bradys and a father and son pairing of Kenny and Darragh Fay, this is one for the ages.

Dunderry, who's second string have been knocking on the door this couple of years were worthy winners and there will surely be a blaze in the village later where Keg will have his work cut tending to the thirsty champions.
