Junior B FC semi final: "Wood' fall in extra time

Michael Shankey retains possession for Kilmainhamwood as Darragh O'Reilly Carnaross closes in during the Meath Junior B FC semi final at Moynalty

Kilmainhamwood 3-9 Carnaross 0-20 AET

Kilmainhamwood headed to Moynalty for a north Meath Derby with Carnaross in the Junior B Championship semi final Friday night. Prior to proceedings a minutes silence was observed for the late Anne Dolan, may she Rest In Peace.

Kilmainhamwood got the scoring underway through a mark from Kian Gillespie. The Wood added another point from the boot of Rian Stafford. Carnaross responded in kind with 2 points to keep the scoreboard ticking over on their end. Brian Cassidy worked hard to kick a well taken score from play. Carnaross worked hard to convert multiple frees to keep them in the game. Kilmainhamwood opened up some space on the scoreboard through a nice pointed effort from Shane Townley and a goal from Noah Madden to see Kilmainhamwood ahead at  at half time.

Kilmainhamwood set out to win out the game with 2 frees from Rian Stafford but Carnaross had other ideas and they came back with a few well worked points to keep in the game. The game was end to end with both teams looking see out a win and it looked like Kilmainhamwood had it sealed when Rian Stafford got open just inside the 45 and swung over a nice point from play but Carnarosshad other ideas and responded in kind to reduce the gap to one. A spilled ball on the far sideline lead Carnaross to one scoring opportunity which they took to send the game to extra time.

Extra time started and that’s where Carnaross came good adding multiple scores without reply until Kilmainhamwood  got 2 goals from high balls through Eoin Finnegan and Niall Bennett to give Kilmainhamwood hope of turning it around. Unfortunately on the night it wasn’t to be with Carnaross running out the winners with the place in the final.
