James Murray celebrates after Trim's SHC semi final win over Kildalkey at Pairc Tailteann

Trim 2-19 Kildalkey 2-13

2022 winners Trim relieved holders Kildalkey of the Jubilee Cup in the first of the Meath Senior Hurling Championship semi finals played at Pairc Tailteann.

This game will be remembered and talked about for a long time to come because of the side line cut display from James Murray. The Trim 40 man scored from four long distance cuts and narrowly missed a fifth. Has this feat ever been achieved anywhere in the country? We think not. Murray had the crowd in awe with his first on the 9th minute and if that wasn’t enough he was at it again 40 seconds later. Two more master stokes followed in the second half to tremendous applause from both sets of supporters.

Trim dominated this game for large parts. The holders, apart from the opening 15 minutes of the second half, played second fiddle. Dimmy Higgins got the scoreboard working, Murray followed up with two of his masterpieces before the same player had the ball in the Kildalkey net in the 12th minute.

Trim were in cruise control leading 1-8 to 0-3 as the half entered injury time. Nicky Potterton brought Kildalkey back into the game with a goal and Brian O’Halloran added a point to leave the half time score more manageable, Trim 1-8 Kildalkey 1-3.

The Village dominated the third quarter. Potterton (4), Paddy Conneely, Niall McNally and Evan Fitzgerald pointed and the lead was down to one 1-11 to 1-10. Trim’s three scores came from Murray’s hurley and included two more sidecuts.

The Town side found an extra gear and made a push for home in the next ten minutes. Murray, Mark Molloy, James Toher and David Murtagh opened up a four point gap before Trim’s second goal arrived courtesy of Mikey Cole. The recently returned Alan Douglas also got in on the scoring act and Trim were eight up.

A speculative shot from McNally deceived Trim keeper Charlie Ennis and ended up in his net to give Nick Fitzgerald’s charges hope but time ran out and Trim advanced to the final where they will meet Ratoath.

Trim scorers: James Murray 1-6, Mikey Cole 1-2, Alan Douglas 0-3, Mark Molloy 0-2, Dimmy Higgins, James Toner, David Murtagh, and Pa Ryan 0-1 each

Kildalkey scorers: Nicky Potterton 1-7, Niall McNally 1-2, David Harmon, Evan Fitzgerald, Brian O’Halloran and Paddy Connelly 0-1 each
