CLG Bhulf Tón 4-07 – Damhliag/Baile an Bheileogaigh 2-11

Chabhraigh ceithre chúl leis an dara foireann an ceann is fear a fháil ar Damhlaig/Baile an Bheileogaigh in gcluiche dí-cháillithe ar an Domhnach. Críochnaíonn an cluiche  sin a bhfeachtas don bhliain seo.

Goals were crucial to a Bhulf Tón success on Sunday morning at  Páirc Baile Ghib, in the premier division 2 relegation semi final. It took seven minutes for the opening score to arrive from a Joe Smith 45. Both teams were evenly matched in the opening quarter a super Rioghan Ó Beaglaíoch goal on 15 minutes to had the score at 1-2 apiece. Tones were playing with a stiff breeze but they struggled to use it to good effect in the second quarter and wasn’t until a 31st minute fisted goal by Joe Smith that they opened up a five point cushion, the Tones goal a result of some lovely interplay by Ben Reilly and Rían Ó Fiannaidhe with the latter unselfishly setting up the Tones top marksman. Duleek/Bellewstown tagged on a point after a brilliant save by Daniel McHugh just before the break to leave it 2-5 – 1-4 at the interval.

The Tones got the ideal start to the second half when Joe Smith bravely fisted the ball to the net after some slick team play further out the field on 35 minutes to leave it 3-5 to 1-5. The next ten minutes belonged to the Duleek/Bellewstown men as they kicked 1-4 without reply. The team in green and yellow, aided by the breeze were kicking from distance and their inside forward line were causing Bhulf Tón some troubles. The visitors now looked to be gaining a strong foothold in the game leading 3-5 to 2-9 after the third quarter. The purple and yellow didn’t panic as the experienced & hard working Gary McFadden cajoled and demanded a response from his team mates, another slick inter passing team move, resulted in Rían Ó Fiannaidhe finishing expertly to the back of the net on 47 minutes and when Joe Smith swung over a brilliant point on 49 minutes the Tones were back on top 4-6 to 2-9. Duleek/Bellewstown rallied again with two points and it took a 58 minute Dan Glynn point to put a brace between the sides again, 4-7 to 2-11. The last few minutes were frantic as Duleek/Bellewstown chased the game but Tones held out for a great victory.

This was a very enjoyable game of football with both teams bringing plenty to the table, it was a well balanced team performance from the home side with Rioghan Ó Beaglaíoch, Dan Glynn, Joe Smith & Rían Ó Fiannaidhe all enjoying good moments. Overall, the season can be considered a success as a very youthful side held their own in Division 2 of the premier championship. Credit to the management team of Patrick Caffrey & Micky McFadden, who put in a lot of work with the team over the season.
