Castletown's Killian Price

Castletown 1-13 Moynalvey 1-10

Castletown progressed to the last 4 of the intermediate championship following a 3 point win over last years SFC relegated side Moynalvey at Dunshaughlin on Sunday at midday.

After a full 7 mins of play, it was Rian Mcconnell who got the opening score of the game from a free. Within the next 30 seconds Adam Matthews, who had an excellent performance on the day, added to the score with our first score from play. Moynalvey answered almost immediately with their first score of the game to leave it just the minimum between the sides.

A second free from Rian McConnell on 13 minutes was followed up by three unanswered scores from play from the Moynalvey men, putting them ahead for the first time in the game with 22 minutes gone. The lively Adam Matthews got his second of the afternoon, with Moynalvey replying 5 mins before the break to go one up once again. Killian Price got his first score of the day to leave the sides 0-5 a piece which is exactly how it ended at the end of the half. Some missed chances from both sides leave it all square at the break. Moynalvey looking dangerous when attacking and with at least 2 goal chances narrowly kicked wide could have had the half time score looking quite different.

Half time score: Castletown 0-5 Moynalvey 0-5

The 2nd half kicked off exactly how Castletown wouldnt have wanted - a goal from play from Moynalvey within just 2 minutes of the restart quickly followed up by another point from play to put them 4 points up in just 3 minutes. Up steps Daragh Kelly with a badly needed point to settle Castletown into the 2nd half followed by McConnell with a pointed free to leave it 2 between the sides with over 20 minutes still left. Two further scores from Moynalvey ensured Caoimhin Kings men extended the gap to 4 points once again.

However Castletown did not drop the heads and continued to work hard but with the 3rd quarter coming to a close a goal was badly needed. Only on the pitch about 7 minutes, substitute Mark Kelly was the man who somehow found the back of the Moynalvey net with a sea of defenders in front of him. It was Mark Kelly once again who added to his tally with a followup point 2 minutes later to leave the sides level once again with 47 minutes gone on the clock.

Momentum has now swung Castletowns direction with another 3 scores from play unanswered, 2 more from Adam Matthews and 1 from Killian Price. Moynalvey fired over 2 more scores , 1 free 1 from play, but it would not be enough as they were cancelled out by 2 further scores - 1 from Killian Price from play and another from Darren Finney on 33rd minutes to get his first score and last of the day.

With hard work and a great performance the lads have been rewarded with a semi final sport against Navan O'Mahonys on the 5th October.
