Wolfe Tones 0-12 Simonstown 1-7
Wolfe Tones advanced to the Meath Senior Football Championship quarter final with two points to spare over neighbours Simonstown at Pairc Tailteann.
Coalan Ward and Niall O’Reilly put Wolfe Tones two up inside the opening five minutes. Ben Hoey opened Simonstown’s account with a brilliant point from the outside of the boot and a minute later Sean Tobin caught the Tones defence napping for the games only goal. Unfortunately for Simonstown Tobin picked up an injury in the process and his game was finished.
Paddy Martin’s men responded in fine style with three unanswered points from Thomas O’Reilly (2) and Cian Ward, with another beauty from the outside of the boot. Wolfe Tones took a 0-6 to 1-2 lead to the dressing room.
Joe Lyons’ charges had the game all square after ten minutes in the second half. Eoghan Gough and Tadgh Hanrahan pointed to leave it 1-4 to 0-7. Wolfe Tones despite playing into the wind made a push for home in the next ten minutes. Caolan Ward and Niall O’Reilly put them back in front before Saran O Fionnagain lit up the game with two outstanding scores inside a minute to leave it 0-11 to 1-5. Padraig McKeever and Oisin Martin exchanged points but the goal Simonstown needed never arrived and they had to be content with a Brían Conlon point before referee David Gough blew the full time whistle.
Wolfe Tones scorers: Thomas O’Reilly 0-3, Niall O’Reilly, Caolan Ward, Cian Ward and Saran O Fionnagain 0-2 each, Oisin Martin 0-1
