Jun B FC quarter final: Big win for Moynalty

Moynalty and Clonard met in Sean Newman Park on Saturday afternoon in the Coolrite Junior B Quarter Final.

Moynalty went into the game in good confidence after topping Group B with 2 wins from 2, and this was evident from the start as Moynalty raced into an 8 point lead after only 13 minutes. Points from Paddy Byrne, Joe Gilsenan and Jude Gilsenan set the tone before James Cassidy found the back of the net with a well taken finish. Paul Lynch was alert to take advantage of a defensive error from Clonard, and he set up Pauric O’Connor for Moynalty’s second goal of the game only a few minutes later. As referee Peter O’Halloran blew the whistle for half time, the score read Moynalty 2-08 Clonard 0-04.

The second half was continued pressure from Moynalty. Wing back Dylan Farrelly was rewarded for his hard working display with a point immediately after the restart. Bryan McCormack then found the green flag only 5 minutes later, to leave the scoreboard reading Moynalty 3-10 to Clonard’s 0-04. The remainder of the game saw both sides playing attacking football, as Jude Gilsenan once again raised the green flag for Moynalty and there were impressive scores from several players including substitutes Kian Lynch and Ollie Sheridan. The Full time score read Moynalty 4-15 Clonard 1-06 as Moynalty now look forward to a semi final clash against the winners of Drumconrath & Saint Marys who meet on Sunday.
