SHC B quarter final: Dunderry advance to last four

September 15, 2024

Dunderry's Daire O'Driscoll

Dunderry 1-16 Blackhall Gaels 2-10

Lomans Park Trim was the venue for this senior B quarter final.

Mark Leavy was first to call the scoreboard into action when he collected from Kelly and drove over. A point from play the other end was cancelled out by a Jordan Martyn point from play. Blackhall found a purple patch and hit 3 from play and 1- 2 from placed balls. Nolan pointed in the midst of the blitz from a free. The youngsters from Dunderry however responded with 1- 2 of their own through a superb point from William Tracey, Kelly deflected a free to the net and Donagh Ó Laoire pointed after collecting from Conor Leavy.  Half time had it 1-5 to 1-7 in favour of Blackhall.

The second half started with Cian Coogan pointing after the Dunderry defence stood strong. Two Evan Nolan frees either side of two from play by Adam Kelly. A Blackhall free had the deficit down to two but Nolan answered that with his third of the second half. Blackhall hit their second free of the half and followed it up with a goal. Was there to be trouble ahead?  Had we not scored enough during our purple patch? Who should we look to for a score but Stephen Coogan who duly obliged.  Back level. Nolan once more punished the  indiscipline, followed up by a sweet Conor Leavy point. 2 up . Blackhall struck from a free of their own to leave the minimum between the evenly matched teams with the 30mins well up. Nolans sixth free of the evening had us up by two well into injury time and when Daire O Driscoll pointed magnificently over his left shoulder from the sideline we all knew the game was up for the gallant Blackhall men.

This was a game that was dogged out and, to out score your opponents always helps! Our second half yielded us 9 as opposed to 1-3 for our opposition. 10 scorers including two substitutes isn't a bad return from an evening out in Trim.

So onwards to  semi final against Longwood in a fortnight.
