Moynalty 1-16 St Ultans / Cortown Gaels 1-10

Moynalty faced St Ultans / Cortown Gaels in the last round of the LMFM Minor Football Championship Division 3 Group B on Monday night, knowing that a victory was a must to progress to the next round.

Moynalty were aided with a first half breeze and were first to score, with Eoin Gilsenan and Sean McMahon both finding the white flag early on. It was nip and tuck between the sides up until the 17th minute when Moynalty got their break through goal. Mikey Smyth turned over the ball deep in the Moynalty defence, and a well worked team effort up the pitch saw Eoin Gilsenan blast into the St Ultans / Cortown Gaels net to put Moynalty 1-04 to 0-03 to the good. Goalkeeper Éanna Bennett struck a 45 over the bar along with points from Cathal Donoghue and Shane Bennett which left the Half time score Moynalty 1-07 St Ultans / Cortown Gaels 0-04.

Moynalty played against the wind in the second half, and the hard work from the lads paid off as they kicked 9 of the opening 10 points of the second half. Jack Kavanagh scored a fantastic point that was fitting for the overall performance he put in. To the travelling teams credit, St Ultans / Cortown Gaels refused to give up, and finally found their confidence as they found a quick fire goal and point in the 46th minute. This proved to be a turning point for them as the momentum begun to swing. St Ultans / Cortown Gaels eventually scored the final 5 points without reply, to leave the Full Time Score Moynalty 1-16 St Ultans / Cortown Gaels 1-10.

The result sees Moynalty through to a semi final, with the fixture details to be confirmed in due course
