Meath Hill 0-16 Blackhall Gaels 1-06
Meath Hill made the short journey to Duleek for their third and final group game.
The early signs were good for Meath Hill as Jack Slavin stole a march on a packed Blackhall defence to slot over an excellent point into the teeth of the breeze. He would repeat the trick moments later on the other side as he used his instep to great effect to give Meath Hill as three point lead, Cormac Sheehy had scored with a trademark effort between Slavin’s scores.
The first half would go in this vain as Meath Hill ran at will into a mean Blackhall defence, Gary Breslin would prod holes in this rearguard as he used his pace and agility to pop up at the opportune moment to score with devastating effect. The score or 0-10 to 0-02 was an accurate reflection of a first half very much played on Meath Hill’s terms
The second half picked up where the first left off with Meath Hill mounting attack after attack. Blackhall would start to pick off scores with well taken points from the evergreen Tadgh Brosnan. Scores from Sheehy and Breslin would put pay to any second half comeback though, the aforementioned Sheehy scything through the Blackhall defence to turn on to his right foot and curl it over leaving the crowd open-mouthed with audible gasps.
A late goal from Brosnan took the bad luck off the score, but this game was Meath Hill’s from start to finish. Meath Hill had great performances throughout particularly from Jamie and Jack Slavin and captain fantastic James Mooney.
The winners top Group A with three wins from three outings and progress to the quarter final in good form.
