September 06, 2024

Mark O'Brien is about to point for Bective as Nobber's Barry Bradley closes in during the Meath IFC clash at Ballinlough

Bective 1-11 Nobber 0-14

A draw was enough for Bective, coupled with Meath Hill’s win over Blackhall Gaels, to advance to the knockout stages of the Meath Intermediate Football Championship.

Ballinlough provided the perfect venue for this entertaining clash under lights.

Nobber got the best start and were 0-2 to 0-0 up inside the opening eight minutes with pointed frees from Niall Farrell and Dale Larkin. David Nolan’s men hit back with three unanswered scores from the impressive Con Smith, corner back Mark Dowdall and Mark O’Brien. With five minutes remaining in the half the sides were level but scores from Marty Mulhall and Smith gave Davy Nolan’s men a 0-8 to 0-6 interval lead.

Gustas Pocevicius narrowed that lead to the minimum with a fine score in the opening minutes of the second half. The games crucial score arrived soon after, Con Smith with a shot that gave Nobber keeper Dary Hutchinson no chance and Bective were four up. To their credit Nobber kept gaoing and were rewarded with scores from Mark Condra, Dean Halpin, Lorcan McEntee, and Dale Larkin (2) and by the 50th minute the sides were level 0-12 to 1-9. Bective were reduced to 14 for the remainder of the game when centre back Finn Murray picked up a black card and in a frantic finish Cathal McConnell and Mulhall put the men in Green and White one up. Nobber created one more chance that ended with Pocevicius and the midfielder levelled matters just before the full time whistle.
