IFC Group A: Second defeat for Nobber

August 26, 2024

Nobber's Dean Halpin

Nobber 1-8 Meath Hill 0-17

Nobber made the short trip to Kilmainhamwood on Sunday afternoon last to face neighbours Meath Hill in the second round of the Meade Farm Intermediate Football Championship Group A tie. Credit to the Kilmainhamwood club for having the pitch in excellent condition. Weather conditions were dry but breezy with a bumper crowd on the bank viewing the North Meath derby.

Nobber started the brightest with an impressive score by centre forward Mark Condra who was making his first championship start at intermediate level. Corner forward Dale Larkin followed this up with a placed ball to allow the black and ambers to take an early lead. Meath Hill however took control of proceedings on the possession front and the scoreboard front notching up 0 – 9 without response. The loss of Fiachra McEntee through injury in the early stages of the game was unfortunate. Martin Morgan’s charges had opportunities for points but unfortunately from a Nobber perspective, some fell short and some wide of the post. Midfielder Dean Halpin finished off a fine team move low and hard to the bottom of the net just before the half-time break to leave 5 between the sides.

Half-time score – Nobber 1-2 (5) Meath Hill 0-10 (10)

Leading into the third quarter of the game both sides traded scores with Larkin and Conor Owens registering scores for the Deesiders’ shooting into the clubhouse end goals. In truth, the blue and white of Meath Hill were more clinical in front of the posts than the black and amber of Nobber. Niall Farrell and Larkin notched over another couple of points for Martin Morgan’s charges in the second period. Some impressive displays from championship debutants Gustas Povecivios and Mark Condra with both gaining plenty of possessions and showing good ball-catching abilities. Defenders Paul Meade and Niall Farrell kept looking for opportunities to push their team forward and never threw the towel in.

A disappointing result for Nobber management, players, and supporters alike. Unfortunately a lot of injuries to deal with this season for the team. Next up for the black and ambers is a round 3 tie against Bective on Thursday, September 5 at 7:30 PM in Ballinlough.
