Jun B FC Group B: Drums breeze into Quarter Finals as they blow Gaels away

August 26, 2024

Shaun Murray keeps possession for Drumconrath during their Junior B FC win over Eastern Gaels at Rathkenny

Drumconrath 1-17 Eastern Gaels 0-3

Playing into the strong wind in the 1st half Drumconrath found Eastern Gaels hard to break down early on despite an early Oisin Reilly which the Gaels soon cancelled out. The sides swapped points in the 12th minute and Steven Crosby edged Drums ahead soon after.

The 2nd quarter belonged to Drumconrath as Croby and Tomas Conlon began to win primary ball and points from Matthew Durnin (2) and Daniel Byrne had Drums up by 4 at the short whistle. Dudley Farrell had reason to be annoyed as the Men in Red but wearing Black had kicked 10 wides in that half.

The cobwebs that were evident in the 1st half now blown away as Drumconrath added 1-11 in the second half with substitute Kieran Weldon notching the goal as Byrne and Durnin contributed 14 points in total between them.

Drums have 1 foot in the knockout stages and have a month to prepare which is time badly needed as the injury toll rose again, Still injured from Round 1 regulars Patrick & Darragh Dunne where watching on today and Oran Brady suffered a nasty facial injury which required stitches.
