IFC Group A: Good start for Meath Hill

August 12, 2024

Meath Hill's Pierce McGrath

Meath Hill 2-9 Bective 1-5

Meath Hill and Bective met in blissful conditions in Drumbaragh on Friday evening for the opening round of the Intermediate championship for each team in their respective pursuit of glory.

Cormac Sheehy made light work of the Bective defence early on, Sheehy and Ben Gogarty had a quick interchange which allowed Sheehy to slot over from distance to get the scoreboard ticking over.

Jamie Slavin had Meath Hill fans salivating when he palmed to the net to widen the Meath Hill lead on the 10 minute mark. This joy would be short -lived however as Meath Hill allowed Bective to puncture a hole in their defence,  round the keeper and finish to the roof of the net, a minute and twenty seconds after scoring a goal themselves. Scores from Gary Breslin and Pierce McGrath would keep the scoreboard ticking over for Meath Hill in the first half.

The second half was a tetchy affair and the result never really looked certain until Andy Monaghan stole a march on his man from his wing half back berth and finished to the net. This score accompanied by some well taken efforts from Breslin and Sheehy allowed Meath Hill to full away in the end for an opening round win.
