JFC Group B: Brigids unlucky in Ballinlough

August 11, 2024

Cormac Browne St. Brigids

Dunderry 1-12 St Brigids 1-10

Ballinlough was the venue for our first round of this years Championship campaign versus Dunderry who were relegated from the Intermediate ranks last year.

We played with the aid of the breeze in the first period which was of a very stop/start type nature with over twenty fouls being awarded over the course of the half. Dunderry opened the scoring with two quick points but Cormac Browne replied with two to level it up by the seventh minute. Dunderry pointed again which was followed by a minor from Cian Blake in the eleventh minute but that was to be our last score of the half and despite having numerous chances we didn't capitalise and trailed at the break on a scoreline of 0-06 to 0-03.

In the second period we upped our performance and nabbed the first two points of the half but Dunderry seemed to be able to keep their noses just ahead and when Mark Gibney powered home a goal in the fifty-seventh minute to leave three points between the teams it made a nervy finish for Dunderry as we pushed for the equaliser with the last couple of plays but a point from a free was our only reward as time ran out with Dunderry taking the first round victory.

Our next outing in the competition is on Sunday the 25th versus St Vincents in Pairc Tailteann at 12.00
