IFC Group D: First win in nearly 50 years for Kilbride

Kilbride 1-12, St Michael's 1-11

Kilbride and St Michael's travelled to St Mary's in Donore in their 1st round Championship Clash at 6pm on Saturday evening.

Kilbride started well with an early point form David O Leary, quickly followed by another point from Josh Harford. Kilbride player Paddy Peters suffered a serious injury to his his knee in the first few minutes and was replaced by Finn White. St Michael's then settled into the game getting a couple of points on the scoreboard. Kilbride followed by another 3 points opening up the gap before Michaels fought back claiming 2 more points. Conor Mcweeney who had a fine first half scored a lovely point followed by a great goal. Conor was then fouled, which led to a free and another point from David O'Leary. Unfortunately Conor, injured during this foul had to go off ending his game just as the whistle blew for half time.

Half time score Kilbride 1-7, St Michaels 0-4

St Michael's started the second half well , scoring the first three points before Kilbride settled back in with Josh Harford scoring 2 lovely points from play. Further points from David O Leary and Adam Malone gave us a seven point lead before Michael's got a goal and 2 points narrowing the gap to two points. Kilbride's Zach McGovern quickly got a further point to bridge the gap to 3 points. St Michael's were not letting up and followed by a further 2 points narrowing the score to a 1 point game before missing a few chances to equalise. Final whistle finally blew to give Kilbride the win.

Great win for this Kilbride team, their 1st intermediate Championship game in nearly 50 years!!  We wish Paddy and Conor a speedy recovery and hope to to see them back playing very soon.
