Moynalty  prove Best as Drums rattle Favourites

Moynalty 2-8 Drumconrath 0-7

Drumconrath rank outsiders tore into Championship Favourites Moynalty in a right good J"B" FC Round 1 tie in Nobber. Given no hope by most with predictions of a point a man defeat Drumconrath sporting their Alternative new Black strip gave the Tidymen an almighty shock for a lot of this game.

From the off Drums played with determination and no little flair as Matthew Durnin, Steven Crosby and Darragh Dunne in particular brought the game to the recent Division 5 League Champions.

In truth Drumconrath who led by a point at the break could have been further ahead as their play belittled their mid table Division 6 League standing.

An early Moynalty free gave the Favourites a good start but some fantastic defending from Drums sowed doubt and there were no more scores until Steven Crosby pointed after 11 minutes.

On 13 minutes Moynalty edged ahead as Shaun Murray leveled almost immediately as Drumconrath ended the quarter ahead following a Daniel Byrne Free. A Moynalty free saw the sides level again but a strong finish to the half saw Durnin point twice as an injury time Moynalty point left it 0-5 to 0-4 to Drumconrath.

Drums suffered a blow with an injury to the influential Darragh Dunne resulting in a dislocated collarbone as the Clubs wish him a swift recovery.

Disaster struck within a minute of the restart as Moynalty struck for a goal which gave them confidence as they added 4 points during that 3rd quarter to give them a healthy if somewhat undeserved 6 point lead.

Drumconrath had plenty of play but did not convert it into scores and a 2nd Moynalty goal against the run of play at that stage and it seemed that the heavy defeat predictions may prove correct. Not so as Drumconrath kept Moynalty scoreless for the the last quarter as they piled pressure on the Favourites but 2 Daniel Byrne points was scant reward for their efforts.

Moynalty will be glad to secure the expected 2 points on offer and Drumconrath can look forward to testing more sides in this Competition and may ruffle a few feathers with their never say die attitude.
