Kildalkey 6-31 Dunderry 1-14
Athboy was the venue for the 3rd round game between Kildalkey and Dunderry.
On the back of a bad beating from Trim in round 2 ,the young Dunderry team kept pace with Kildalkey for the first 15 or so minutes. Kildalkey opened from play then Conor Leavy surged forward and dropped a pass back to Evan Nolan to level for the one and only time. 3 from play and a free had Kildalkey up by 4 until Níall Ó Laoire intersected and handed to Leavy who drove over himself this time. Nolan and Mark Leavy pointed , the latter picked out by Jordan Martyn. Down to 2 points but that would be the nearest the black and whites would get. Cian Ccogan pointed from the center of the field in the midts of a Kildalkey blitz.Stephen Coogan and Evan Nolan had 1 each to leave Timber Leavy's youngsters trailing 0-7 to 3 -16 at the interval.
Where both teams are at became very evident as Kildalkey hit 2- 5 without reply to leave themselves with a 29 point advantage. The tigerish Darragh Fay picked out the energetic Mark leavy who made no mistake splitting the posts. Another onslaught followed which Kildalkey outscored Dunderry 1 -7 from play to 2 Nolan frees.
Next came a passage of play which Dunderry have to replicate all through their next game. Kildalkey to their credit didn't take the 'foot off the pedal' and just wanted to hurl and hurl. Dunderry hit 1-4 on the bounce through a Nolan free, 2 Mark Leavy points, another from Conor Leavy and a goal from Cian Coogan. A nasty injury to Jack Newman outside the wire was the talking point of the second half, speedy recovery Jack - it was the quietest you ever were!!
Liam Rattigan replaced the injured Brady. William Tracey came on in place of Donagh Ó Laoire. Tadhg Dowd replaced Jamie Leavy. Fay and Ó Laoire stuck well to their tasks in defence. Leavy worked hard in the middle while up front Nolan and Mark Leavy showed what the are capable of.
