Wolfe Tones 1-10 Ballivor 3-2

Wolfe Tones turned in a very controlled performance to see off an injury hit Ballivor in this highly entertaining Minor Football League Division 3 final at Pairc Tailteann. PHOTOS

Blake McGarry had the winners on the scoreboard first with a good point but they were stunned three minutes later when Cian Prior pounced for Ballivor first goal. Alex McKeever got his first score of the afternoon to narrow the lead but Ballivor found the back of the Tones net again, this time through full forward Patrick Casey after a brilliant run from Conal Diggins..

Billy Birmingham and Sean Power traded scores before Wolfe Tones hit a purple patch. A Cormac McKenna point was quickly followed by a Rian Fox goal and the sides were level 1-4 to 2-1 after twenty minutes. Michael O’Connor pushed Ballivor back in front but Thomas McKeever with the score of the game made sure there was nothing separating these two at half time.

Centre back Diggins was at it again in the opening minutes of the second half this time setting up fellow defender Eoin Carroll for their third goal. The Tones refused to panic. Alan Fox’s charges had to wait till the 16th minute for their first score of the half from Rian Fox. Three unanswered points from McKeever pushed them ahead and substitute Evan Curly added the insurance point with injury time looming. Ballivor came looking for a match winning goal but the Tones defence stood firm to claim the silverware.

After the game Wolfe Tones captain Tiarnan McKeever was presented with the MFL Division 3 Cup.
