MHL Div 1 final: Defeat for O'Mahonys in Drumree

The O'Mahonys squad on duty for the MHL Division 1 final against Dunboyne Blackhall Gaels

Navan O’Mahony’s 1-15 St Peter’s Dunboyne/Blackhall Gaels 3-14

Navan O’Mahonys took on St Peters Dunboyne/Blackhall Gaels in the Minor Hurling Division 1 League Final in Drumree.

The opening score came after 3 mins when a free given to Lorcan McDermott was put over the bar by Rian Porter.  A great catch from the puckout by Seb Snow gave way to a blinding strike from the middle of the field resulting in a point 30 secs later .Dun/BHG keeper was very brave stopping a near goal chance by Lorcan McDermott after 5 minutes.  The opening score for Dun/BHG came shortly after from a free. A massive puckout from NOM keeper  Daniel Carolan, resulted in a very well finished goal from Rian Porter.   This was quickly followed by a point from a free to Dun/BHG. The Dun/BHG keeper followed with a huge puckout resulting in a goal to Dun/BHG, evening up the scores after 10 minutes.  This was followed up by point from free by Rian Porter 

A free to Dun/BHG landed the ball in the danger zone and even the best efforts of Daniel Carolan could not keep the sliotar out of the net.  Two points followed by Rian Porter and Oisin Finnegan evening up the scores again It was impossible to separate these teams with tit-for-tat scores. Dean Walsh put 2 points across to bring it to 1-8 to 2-3 which was a relief after a fantastic block by Dun/BHG player on the keeper left for scary times for Navan O’Mahonys  but fine work from Aaron Gavin cleared the line.  A point from a 65 from Rian Porter and 2 points from frees for Dunboyne brought score at half time

Navan O’Mahony’s 1-09 St Peters Dunboyne/Blackhall Gaels 2-05

The opening score of the 2nd half came from free by Rian Porter, quickly followed by point from Dun/BHG. A free taken by Daniel Carolan was sent into the box and after some mighty work was put over the bar by Daithi Wade. A close free for Dun/BHG followed bringing them back to a 1 point game. A point for Dun/BHG from a free evened the score once again). Dun/BHG found extra in the tank and a goal was scored by the no. 7 to put them ahead for the first time. Harry McGuirk replaced Michael Byrne.  Frees for both teams brought score to 1-12 to 3-9. With 8 minutes to go, Dun/BHG scored a 65.  2 wides followed for Dun/BHG but with 6 minutes to go they put over another point. Scores followed from Rian Porter from a free and Harry McGuirk from a very tight corner. With two minutes to go it was 1-14 to 3-11. In the closing minutes, a free resulted in a point for Dun/BHG.  A free taken by Hugh Carolan brought Navan O’Mahony’s to 1-15 to 3-12 but Dun/BHG scored 2 more points to keep the gap too far to reach.
