Slane full back Johnny McDonagh surveys his options during the Division 5 FL semi final win over Cortown

Slane 1-13 Cortown 0-5

The reward for winning 11 out of 11 games in this Tommy Dowd Oil Football League Division 5 semi-final was home advantage.

Slane started the more comfortable of the sides and raced into a 1-5 to 0-00 lead after 15 mins with the goal coming from Matthew Tully and points from Podge McGowan, Sean Martyn and Tadhg Martyn. Cortown found their feet and at half time, Slane led 1-08 to 0-01

Cortown registered the first score of the 2nd half and added two more in quick succession but Slane took control. Tempers flared in the second half with some dangerous tackles with Cortown losing their corner back and lucky not to lose one or two others. But Slane kept their cool and cruised to a 1-13 to 0-05 victory.

Slane now play Moynalty in the final next Tuesday, a repeat of last years Junior B final which promises to be a great match between two good sides.
