FL Div 5 semi final: Promotion and final date for Moynalty

July 18, 2024

Moynalty's James Cassidy

Moynalty 1-15 Kilmainhamwood 1-11

Moynalty played neighbours Kilmainhamwood on Wednesday night in the semi final of the Tommy Dowd Oil Division 5, with both teams hoping to secure promotion to Division 4 for next year.

It was Moynalty who started off brightest, registering two quick scores from James Cassidy and Paddy Byrne to give them an ideal start. Kilmainhamwood refused to let this get to them, and soon began knocking over scores of their own as the sides remained close throughout. John Brogan sent over the pick of the scores in the first half for Moynalty with a curling effort as the half time score read Moynalty 0-08 Kilmainhamwood 0-07

The second half started brightly for Moynalty, as midfielder Pauric O’Connor went on a storming run through the heart of the ‘Wood’s defence, laying the ball off to Paul Lynch who saw his effort hit the post. Jude Gilsenan was on hand to tuck away the rebound to put 3 between the sides. Again, Kilmainhamwood dug deep and hit back with a goal of their own shortly afterwards. There were some important turnovers won in the defence as the game drew on, with Liam Brogan impressing in defence for Moynalty throughout, as well as Johnny Lynch making an important save towards the end. Eventually it was Moynaltys sharpness infront of goal which won the game for them, with the full time score Moynalty 1-15 Kilmainhamwood 1-11

Moynalty are now rewarded with promotion from Division 5, and will face the winners of Slane and Cortown in the Final scheduled for next Tuesday, July 23rd with a location TBC.
