Nobber's Jack Condra

Nobber 0-11 Dunsany 3-9

Nobber welcomed Dunsany to their home grounds on Wednesday evening last for their Round 10 Division 3 A-League fixture. It was a nice dry evening for football with a light breeze, with Nobber in need of picking up some points to avoid being involved in a relegation dogfight.

The black and ambers started brightly with scores from midfielder Dean Halpin and corner forward Dale Larkin shooting into the village end goals inside the opening 10 minutes. The red and whites of Dunsany were quick to respond and registered 1 – 2 on the scoreboard swiftly afterward. Nobber continued to work some nice scores throughout the half with Larkin registering a well-taken mark, and Joe Tierney popping one over. The game remained tight, but Dunsany raised another green flag, which increased their lead. Martin Morgan’s charges concluded the first half with fine scores from Larkin once more and Jack Condra.

Half-time score – Nobber 0 – 6 (6) Dunsany 2 – 5 (11)

Dunsany had a player given a black card with five minutes remaining in the first half. Nobber failed to capitalise on the scoreboard during this period when they had an extra man, however, it wasn’t due to lack of effort. The Deesiders got the first score of the second period through a Larkin free to narrow Dunsany’s lead to 4 points. During the third quarter, there were few chances executed on the scoreboard from either side. Leading into the final quarter both sides traded scores with Lorcan McEntee scoring for the Nobber men. Leading into the final minutes Nobber continued to fight for every ball, however, Dunsany went up the pitch on a counter-attack and finished to the back of the net to end the game as a contest. Jack Condra and Conor Owens kicked some impressive scores for the North Meath men in the concluding stages of the game.

One of the main highlights from a Nobber perspective was the return to competitive action of Mark Condra who has suffered a very tough time with injuries in the past number of seasons. The towering figure of Condra was introduced to the game in the final 10 minutes. Condra marked his return to action with a fine score not unlike Kerry legend Kieran Donaghy in his prime catching a highball while holding off opposing defenders, and kicking a high, accurate score that landed over the crossbar.

Next up for Nobber is an away fixture v Dunderry on Saturday, July 6 at 6 PM.
