Rathkenny secured a top of the table finish and a home semi final with this comprehensive victory over a valiant Blackhall team on a very un summer like evening in Kilcloon, the cold and windy conditions were not conducive to free flowing football but the victors who welcomed back county players Donal Keogan and Keith Curtis, gave a professional performance, keeping it tight in the first half while playing into the strong breeze before letting loose in the 2nd half.

Blackhall got the first two points of the game before David Curtis replied with two excellent points of his own. James OHare got on the end of a well worked move to put the visitors in front. Two pointed frees from Keith Curtis concluded the first half scoring. Half time - Blackhall 0 - 2, Rathkenny 0 - 5

Rathkenny started the 2nd half with a Keith Curtis point followed by two fine long range scores from James Macken . A well worked Noah Jenkinson point followed and Blackhall were finding It tough against the elements. Sean O Hare and Keith Curtis added further points before the home team replied with their sole score of the half to leave the score 0-3 to 0 - 11. Rathkenny's first goal was slightly fortuitous as a long range attempt at a point from Padraig Mc Keever was misjudged by the home keeper in the strong wind. Noah Jenkinson got his 2nd score of the game before in the 55th minute, substitute Eoghan Heavey got on the end of a great team move to hit the net from close range. Keith Curtis concluded the scoring with a fine individual point and a free to leave the final score Blackhall Gaels 0 - 3, Rathkenny 2 - 14. It was a good team performance from Rathkenny and they will now look forward to the last game against Kilbride, happy in the knowledge that their semi final berth has already been secured. Unfortunately defender Mark Byrne suffered what looks like a serious ankle injury in the last moments of the game. Hopefully Mark makes a speedy recovery.
