Kildalkey's Nicky Potterton

Kildalkey 2-20 Clann na nGael 1-16

Near neighbours Kildalkey and Clann na Gael went to battle on Saturday evening in Round 6 of the Division 1 HL at Rathcairn and after a tight affair Kildalkey emerged with the 2 points on offer.

Clann na Gael posed problems for the jubilee cup holders early in the game but Kildalkey got into their stride and led by 10 points at the three quarter stage but took the foot off the gas and allowed Clann na Gael to close the gap to 4 points with time almost up but with the last attack Evan Fitzgerald got onto the end of a long delivery to leave the blues winning by 2-20 to 1-16 at the full time whistle.

County star Nicky Potterton was back from his holidays and accounted for 1-9 of the total 1-5 from play showing some neat footwork for the goal dancing his way through a few Clann defenders to rifle a stinging shot to the net and his movement and touch especially was top class.

County footballers Brian o Halloran and Brendan Mckeon also were back with both playing well with O Halloran contributing 4 points .

Kildalkey led by 1-11 to 0-7 at the break and seemed to be cruising to victory but Clann na Gael kept chipping away with points from frees and play to close the gap until the late goal sealed the win in what was an entertaining game for the good sized crowd to enjoy.
